There is no denying the humble donut has had a resurgence in the last few years. Ambitious foodies the world over have created a cult-like following with their artisan approach and play on flavours. Whether it’s a donut blended with frozen custard at Shake Shack in New York City or a donut acting as a garnish at Brewtown Newtown in Sydney, Australia, the donut has taken on a whole new direction.
We thought we would celebrate our Week of Cool with a donut or five:
1. Doughnut Plant – New York City, USA
This New York establishment has been credited with making donuts cool again. With an ever-changing menu such as Creme Brulee and Carrot Cake (my personal favourites!), they are well deserving of the number one spot.

2. ShortStop Coffee & Donuts – Melbourne, Australia
A relative new-commer, this donut shop is tucked away in a side street in inner city Melbourne. But Anthony & the team have certainly left their mark. They amassed a huge following before the store even opened seeing them sell out almost every day! The Peanut Butter & Jelly or Honey & Sea Salt Cruller are hard to beat.

3. Dynamo Donut & Coffee – San Francisco, USA
This San Francisco local regularly has a line on the footpath. If you're in the area try the Bread & Butter Pudding or Maple Glazed Bacon Apple. That's right.... BACON!

4. Bouchon Bakery – Yountville, California
OK, so whilst it's technically not a donut shop we couldn't go past this bakery owner by the god of all things food Thomas Keller. Keller has certainly influenced a classic by combining his years of culinary experience and quality produce. If the Chocolate Brioche Doughnut is the last thing you ever eat, it will be a life fulfilled!

5. Crosstown Doughnuts - London, United Kingdom
The English are not exactly famous for donuts but that doesn't mean they aren't serious contenders. Crosstown Doughnuts combines classic sweet flavours with a handmade artisan approach. Try the Strawberry & White Choclate or The Lamnut. Hell, try them all!
